Te Puia literally translates as geyser and is also the name of a pre-European fortified village within the geothermal valley.
It rises above the silica spray of erupting geysers, surrounded by the sounds of nature and voices of visitors from all around the world. Te Puia strives to enforce a Government mandate that was made in 1963 to preserve and foster the continuation of Maori Arts and Crafts, including providing guardianship of the amazing Whakarewarewa Geothermal Reserve.
Haere mai ki Te Puia. (Welcome to Te Puia).
