Experience the National Geographic Kids Hands-On Explorer family vacation with your kids! Six days of fun, history, wildlife & a thrilling downhill bike ride!
The excitement begins in Hobart, capital of Tasmania. You’ll tour this historic city before heading to Port Arthur and the peninsula’s rugged coast. The infamous Port Arthur convict settlement was created to put fear and hatred into the minds of those unfortunate enough to be sent there.
After a light lunch your guide will personally escort you around the ruins of the settlement telling you tales of the hardships suffered by the convicts. You’ll cruise Carnavon Bay on a modern catamaran to the Isle of the Dead, Point Puer and the Dockyards. A fascinating day of adventure your kids won’t soon forget.
The next day you’ll take a thrilling bike ride know as the Mount Wellington Descent. Rising to a height of 4160 feet, Mt Wellington is a spectacular and panoramic backdrop for the city of Hobart. Take in the views of the distant mountain ranges of the southwest, to the sprawling city of Hobart below. Then follow your guide on a 13 mile downhill descent of the mountain. Watch the alpine terrain gradually being replaced by a magnificent forest and stop on several occasions to take in the varying views and snap a picture or two. You descend through the back streets of Hobart and Battery Point at Salamanca Place on the waterfront of Hobart. Fantastic!
On day three you’ll pick up your intermediate size rental car and your 3 day See Tasmania card which will give you and the kids entry to the best museums, galleries, wildlife parks, cruises and more – plus some great shopping and dining discounts. Visit the Richmond Zoo Doo Wildlife Park, Platypus House, Seahorse World, Noctural Penguin tour, the Honey Farm and more. Over 60 attractions to enjoy!
